You know how scientists classify animals? Yeah, me neither, but thanks to the American Buffalo, I recently learned about it! There is something called a taxonomy chart which lists the genus as “Bison” and the species as “Bison bison”. It’s like the people said “oh it’s a buffalo!” and the scientists were like “It’s a Bison! BISON, BISON!” and then the people were like “OMG a buffalo!!!”. We thought it was pretty funny!

So about those BISON, we saw a million!!! Ok, that might be hyperbole, but we really did see a LOT! We were going on a scenic drive through Theodore Rosavelt National Park and looking and hoping we’d see bison.

For about 30 minutes all we saw were prairie dogs, which were pretty cute but all we wanted by this time was BISON! Then we stopped at an overlook and FINALLY spotted bison off in the distance…and then they started walking towards us…and then over the hill we saw hundreds of them just start walking right down the middle of the road.

So, we jumped back in the truck and got on the road because we wanted to see them up close! They kept coming and eventually were walking across the road right in front of us, only a few feet away from our truck!! It was INSANE!

Overall, it was an amazing experience with the buffalo…I mean bison.😋
