It was a regular old morning, and I was lying in bed reading when dad came in and said, “guess what, we’re seeing Jonah much earlier than we thought….they’ll be meeting us in Montana on Wednesday!!”. I was sooooooo excited!!!!
Wednesday FINALLY arrived. As we drove to Bozeman to meet the Black family, we found out that their plane was delayed. I was so sad because I had been so excited to see my bestie that day. Mom reassured me that they’d be there when I woke up so that thought got me through the day.
When night came around though, I could NOT fall asleep because I was way too excited! Around midnight, I was finally drifting off when I felt someone crawling into my bunk. I was so sleepy I could barely even open my eyes but sure enough, it was Jonah! Camille climbed into the top bunk with Grier and just like that, our besties had arrived!
We had the BEST time together. We tubed down the Madison River, swam in Chico Hot Springs, paddled and played in Hyalite Canyon, visited an awesome dinosaur museum, and explored downtown Bozeman. Best of all though, we spent time with our besties, the Blacks.
The funniest adventure was definitely tubing. The parents promised us a “relaxing float” down the river…but I don’t think they were quite right.
First, they told us we could only have seven tubes attached together. Buuuut once we got on the river, we used an extra carabiner that Ellie had and attached all nine together. Then the chaos really began. We were falling out of tubes, crashing into everything, and we were all laughing so hard we could barely breathe!
A little while in, we decided to pull off on a small island to eat some of the sandwiches we packed. Since no one was in the tubes, they started to blow away and they got all tangled. We had to chase after them, hold them down, and untangle the tube puzzle. I got hit in the head by flying tubes like four times! After that we didn’t really get out of our tubes again…not on purpose at least.
There were some spots that were shallow or there were big rocks so we would yell “bottoms up!” and we’d all do backwards plank so we didn’t hit our butts or get stuck. Whenever we did get stuck, the adults took turns getting out and pulling or pushing us and then would have to dive back onto their tubes fast before we floated away. Ellie got left behind more than once, which made us laugh even harder!
After tubing, we piled into an old school bus to ride back to our cars. But about 30 seconds down the road… the bus broke down. None of us really cared, though because we had a cooler full of snacks! The driver had to walk a long way to find cell service and call another bus. We didn’t mind. We spent the time laughing and snacking until the rescue bus arrived.
All of the adventuring was fun but the sweetest moments were just hanging out at the campsite, making friendship bracelets, filming silly movies, playing games, and painting rocks. We loved every minute with our besties and are already counting down the days until our next visit.
